Here are 5 tactics you can use today to boost email marketing response:
1) Write a stronger subject line. If your subject line is weak, your email probably won’t even get opened, much less read. Keep in mind that a shorter subject line is usually better than a longer one. And it’s best if the subject line includes a promise to the recipient that will be kept when they open and read the email.
2) Carefully compose your body copy. Use shorter words in shorter sentences and shorter paragraphs. Write at about a 3rd grade level. (Do a search for “grade-level checker for writing” to find online tools that can help with this.
3) Keep your message structure tight. Start with a longer draft, then edit it down to somewhere between 50 to 125 words. Consider whether it would help readability to use bullet points or a numbered list for key points. Use all caps, bold and italic text sparingly, but don’t avoid styling your text if it helps you make your point.
4) Add a little emotional connection. Strict neutrality can be perceived as boring. Let your reader know you’re human with the inclusion of a few positive or negative words and phrases, depending on the message you’re trying to deliver.
5) Fine-tune your call to action. The wording of your call to action is almost as important as the wording of your subject line. Emphasize what the recipient gets, not what you want them to do. Instead of “book an appointment with one of our sales reps”, make it “get your questions answered in a brief phone conversation.”
